Nature finds a way

This tree was planted around 15 years ago and whilst it was quite young, maybe 10 years ago, someone stripped all of the bark from the trunk. We assumed that was that and the tree would die. However there was still a couple of inches of bark at the back and the tree survived. It tree continued to grow from the barked area and you can see where this is gradually surrounding the dead wood.
Now the tree is the same size and as healthy looking as the others planted at the same time. It just has the war wound now, which it can tell its saplings about when it has some!
