The Paper Palace

I’ve just finished this book and enjoyed it much more than I anticipated. It is very gritty and covers some awful issues . Miranda Cowley Heller is a new writer and was long listed for the Women’s Fiction prize with this first novel . It’s beautifully written although the ending is intriguing and there’s  lots of discussion on the internet about the interpretation of the ending .
We had a long chat on FaceTime with Jack and Kirstie in Perth . They are enjoying themselves although the weather is really wet . Jack flies out to the mine for his first rotation next Monday . They have found a new rental flat to move into with excellent views towards the Swan River. Trying to find somewhere to rent there involves a firm of ‘speed dating’ for flats where everyone is shown round at the same time and they offer it you or not . Consequently you have to make your mind up quickly.
