The canal that never happened

Whilst browsing I came across this old plan for a canal from Monkey Island to Isleworth. This would have made moving goods by water much easier as the Thames was unreliable and very twisty. It was especially interesting to me as it would have passed very near to where I once lived in Twickenham. It would have changed the character of the area.
One of the proposed routes would have gone straight through Bill Williams cabbage patch, otherwise known now as the famous Rugby Ground.
