Bad News for Bees

For anyone that has seen the horror movie Alien, this insect is the real deal. It is the yellow banded conops or bee grabber. Like the alien, it grabs its poor host (in this case, the bumblebee) and lays an egg. The hatched larva then burrows into the bee to feed and later emerges from it as a new adult. 

Spoiler alert, the bee doesn't survive. Fact can be stranger than fiction.
