Long Lost Friend...
...found again. She found me, actually, and we've had the most wonderful day. John joined us for lunch and stuck it out for a couple of hours, but eventually wandered off. He admitted that if he had gotten together with an old friend they would have said whatever they had to say to each other in two hours no matter how long it had been.
We were all hostages inside as it was brutally hot outside. Our plans to eat ouside at a winery down the road vaporised in the heat and I made a salad which we ate here. We managed one five minute foray outside but the planned outdoor activities were all put on hold until next time, and there will be a next time. We talked non-stop for almost six hours before she reluctantly took her leave to drive back to Berkeley before dark.
Connie and I go back a long way, and we had a lot of ground to cover...her family, our family, side trips into fire stories, Covid isolation stories and yoga catch-ups. We met in a yoga class, traveled to India together, taught a class together and many years later drifted apart for reasons we also discussed. By the time she left, neither of us was dry eyed, and the next time she comes, she will spend the night because her house is in the midst of a very disruptive remodel, and anyway, we still have a lot more to talk about!
I didn't really realize how much I have missed her until she walked in the door, and we picked up right where we left off almost 20 years ago.
