The Gecko Has Landed!

Several months ago, my younger granddaughter Kalyn decided that she wanted a gecko for a pet.
"No way!" said the parents. "Not a chance!"
She did tons of research and discovered every possible fact about geckos that she could find. Every couple of days, she would ask again.
"NO!" said the parents.
Now my granddaughter is one of the most persistent people you'll ever meet. She upped her request to several times a day.
"Give it up!" snapped the parents. "You're NOT getting a gecko! Reptiles and animals don't belong in a house."
"But we have a dog!"
"That's different."
"No it isn't!"
"No gecko is living in this house."
Finally after a few weeks of her continuous whining and stubborn insistence that a gecko would be a perfect pet, the parents agreed that yes, she could get a gecko. Celebration!
Then she made the mistake of telling her dad that geckos can live to be fifteen to twenty years old.
"WHAT?? So when you go to university, you think we're going to be stuck with a gecko? NOT A CHANCE!!"
"But I'll take it with me! Or maybe if I can't, Nanzy and Gramps will look after it."
So her dad agreed that IF Nanzy and Gramps would sign a written contract to take the gecko if Kalyn couldn't take it with her when she left home, she could get one.
No problem - Nanzy and Gramps were all for it.
About two months ago, Kalyn ordered the gecko from the Urban Reptile in Toronto. This facility ships reptiles all over the world. Now in order to ship a reptile across Canada, the weather has to be quite warm. Kalyn may be persistent, but she's not patient. As the days passed and the weather didn't improve, she got more and more agitated and angry that the gecko wasn't on its way. FINALLY she got word that the weather was warm enough and the gecko arrived last Thursday!
We also arrived for a visit last Thursday. Imagine our surprise and delight to meet Izzy - and to witness her shed (and eat) her skin on that very first night! She's amazing.
I might get my own gecko.
