Local Chinese Govt. Tricks Homeowners

Home owners protest against local Chinese government in this case it's Nanshan district government in Shenzhen.

Pasted on on all sides of this building there have banners for several months and friction between residents has been going on since 2011. When the homeowners purchased their home it came with a parking space and this in 2011 led to a violent incident when they were informed the car park even though it was within the grounds it did no belong to them. According to a local media website, complete with pictures, 300 riot police turned up encircled the car park and just watched on while hired thugs fought with the residents and smashed up their cars. Of course several residents were hospitalised with broken bones.

On the side of this building the banners display two issues. First, the fact that they were also tricked when they bought their homes. These homes do not have 'fire access' and do not conform to fire regulations Nanshan government was aware of this when they sold the flats and promised to build fire access but never did thus the building must be demolished. The second, issues is that the local government is in cahoots with a property developer which wants to redevelop the land.

What's more, prices for new homes in this area are probably the highest in the whole city and this site overlooks a picturesque park and faces towards the local hills. When the residents in this 32 storey block bought their homes in 1996 they paid over-the-odds at 6000 (RMB) per square metre when the going rate was 4000 RMB today for a new build it's between 50,000 and 60,000 RMB per square metre.

60,000 RMB = £6,267 / US$9,724
