Lake's Alive!
The lake was constructed about forty years ago by our neighbours in memory of their son who died when he was a young man. They installed a huge pipe to channel the water from our glasshouse gutters into it. I was absolutely amazed by how much higher the water level is after yesterday's cloudburst. The beach that Jack heron was standing on the other day is now under water. The mallards, which have been hiding away, were splashing and preening in the shallows. Moorhens have appeared amongst the lily pads which were formerly shrivelling to a crisp and are now floating freshly. I haven't seen many dragonflies but lots were on the wing today. What a pleasure to stand on the bank and luxuriate in the transformation the rain has brought.
