Nestling
I spent the morning helping G in her enormous new garden in one of the most exposed spots hereabouts. Once the trees and shelter belts have become established there will be plenty of protection from the wind, but for the next two or three years it’s going to be blasted.
G is an experienced cut flower gardener but is learning from scratch about home grown food. Hence my involvement. Today we weeded an herbaceous border, whilst nattering about vegetables. I foresee hours of happy collaboration.
Back Chez Mima I completed weeding the fruit cage, shifted some barrows of compost into raised veg beds and planted the new apricot tree (a Moorpark).
This extraordinary lichen-smothered stone was nestled in pine needles on the edge of a wee pine plantation that we walked past on our walk this afternoon.
I was very happy to be outside in the garden again, even though the clean work pants I put on first thing were caked in mud by the end of the day. Yesterday’s rain didn’t amount to much, but everything turned to glue again.
Thankfully we haven’t suffered the rain experienced further north. There are dreadful scenes this evening.
