Time for Mushrooms

24 hours of sustained rain plus cooler temperatures means one thing at this time of year, mushrooms.  These mushrooms are growing on the old maple tree stump in the front yard.  It looks a bit like Pearl Oyster mushrooms which are edible but I'm not taking any chances.  Some little creature has been nibbling on them though.  There is also a nice crop of button mushrooms growing in back.  I wish I knew a mycologist that would tell me which are safe to eat.  I remember going mushroom gathering with my father's mother but she died when I was seven so anything I might have learned from her is long lost.
