COVID memorial quilt..on show at NEC Birmingham
This blip is actually taken from an email I was sent recently.
Today I was planning to go to the Quilt Show at the NEC but when the various train strikes were announced I decided against it. The sewing machine company Bernina and the Quilters Guild invited people to make a small square for a COVID Memorial Quilt. There was a very good response and 230 quilters submitted blocks…you were sent some fabric and backing together with strict instructions! I blipped my block on January31st , sent it off and heard nothing until last week!
These have now been sewn together and will be on show at the show. I was delighted to see mine ( the face with a mask) near the centre!
Everyone who submitted a block was asked to give the story behind their block and apparently a booklet is being produced giving the details of all involved and their stories. So I hope to get this either digitally or a print copy soon. My friend who lives locally also did a block but hers is not visible in this sample! I think the quilt will then go on display somewhere else and be found a permanent home so hopefully it won’t be too far away and I will go to see it.
A busy day cleaning and sorting out two bedrooms which will soon need new beds for growing grand children. I turned out our airing cupboard and decided to put some duvets and bed linen on Freecycle. Next I need to look at all my old curtains as I think they can probably go too.
