Forth Rail Bridge HDR
In large ("L"), it is obvious that there is no one painting it at the moment!
Lady M. and I went on a little expedition today to visit the Forth Rail Bridge. It was a beautiful day (in spite of the gale wind...) and we had a wonderful explore of the waterfront between the two Forth bridges (rail and road). Gosh, the rail bridge is an immense and impressive structure; I've (of course) seen pictures of it before, but it was so much more vast than I anticipated. We took the train to Dalmeny and ambled along to South Greenferry: there are steps down from the level of the railway down to the waterfront below, and as we descended the steps, the bridge just seemed more and more vast. The height of the viaduct (and spans) was baffling.
We wandered along the high street at South Queensferry, and were stopped by a man with a clipboard and a man with a TV camera; they were interested in our view on the name for the new Forth Road Bridge. Lady M. (quick as a flash) said, "Wee Eck's Folly", only to be informed that they actually already had a shortlist, and just wanted to know which we preferred. None of the alternatives seemed apt, so we didn't agree to be filmed or to select from their list.
We wandered back along the shingle and took lots of photographs; I only realised, on our return, that what I really needed was a tidy foreground as the bridge and its reflections were absolutely the point of the photograph, but I've got some with which I'm pleased (and am being v. restrained by not blipping a herring gull picture which I like...!)
