When is a teddy bear actually done being made?
Is it when the last bit of stuffing is stuffed?
Or final stitch added and end sewn in?
Or when tiny hands clasp its neck?
Or only when it lies threadbare and worn
Held together more by memories than any piece of grubby brown-hued yarn?
Is it only when the bear has a story to tell
Of childhood adventures
And misadventures
A story of love (like that velveteen rabbit)
That it can finally call itself finished?
I’m hoping to find out
