Technical support test

A member of my congregation asked me to test his late wife's camera out as he is thinking of giving it to his grandson. I therefore went out with it to the local nature reserve to put it through its paces. It performed well with different light and settings ... except for the write speed to the card, which is very slow. I had checked what cards the camera could accept and used one of my faster cards, formatted for this camera. Even so, the recording to card icon appeared every time and I had to wait before taking the next shot. I tried it on burst and the same happened, not the performance it should give. 

I have searched the net for answers but they all say it is the card at fault. I know it is not and I've even tried three different cards. I went on to the Panasonic customer support and was advised to do a factory reset and update the firmware, which I have done and it is still no better. 

As you can see, it can take a good picture but I am baffled as to why it is taking so long to write to the card. Any words of wisdom anyone?
