MM: Ordinary

Thanks for the congratulations on the sale of my photo at the Tubac exhibit. I'm still all a-twitter.

Today's mono Monday theme is ordinary/every day. Thanks to Mole so very much for hosting this month.

I consider EXTRAordinary birthdays to be the ones that end in a zero or five (50,55,60, etc). Today, I am neither of them. Today's birthday is quite an ordinary number. As was the day (for the most part). Calls came in from Reno brother, two kind blip buddies and texts from a couple of family members. The strangest thing: birthday email greetings from AARP, four medical practices, three e-card companies (only one of which I use), the Santa Rita Lodge, and Starbucks.

My day consisted of lunch at the deli, a blood draw in Tucson, and a stop at Safeway for a lemon meringue pie. Why a lemon meringue pie?

Cakes are traditional for birthdays but I was never really fond of cake. When I hit my twenties, I asked mom if I could have a lemon meringue pie for my birthday instead of cake. She was an incredible baker and made the lightest, flakiest crust I have ever had. So the pie became a tradition but really only known between the two of us. It was a special thing for me.
Check it out in large. It really SHIMMERS!

So, having no one to celebrate with in person, I still had to get that pie. It is an ordinary birthday on pretty much an ordinary day.  Except I get to eat pie tonight.

It's easier to remember your age if you don't change it every year.

You know you're getting old when you go to an antique auction and three people bid on you.

You know you’re getting old when you begin every other sentence with, “In my day…”

What's a sure sign you're getting older?
When you and your teeth don’t sleep together.
