Letheringsett Mill
This morning G and I walked over to Letheringsett Mill to meet several other U3A photo group members for a tour of the mill. It was so interesting and obviously we had the obligatory tea and cake afterwards. Moving clockwise from top left you can see the mill; the cogs moving the mill wheel as powered by the water wheel in the river; the hopper from which the grain feeds in; the maiden 'cutting' the grain to the fineness set; the miller showing us the flour that's been produced; and the packaged flour all ready to sell. The miller was telling us she has an allergy to flour, how unfortunate is that! Even though I was wearing a mask, I still had to go outside as the fine dust was making me cough. The miller also said they were only able to mill half as much at a time as usual, due to the low water levels moving the wheel much slower. It's well worth a visit if you're in the area and it's open for tours. Also pop in to buy the flour which is all sourced from local grain grown within 20 miles, or simply stop for tea and cake.
