Henley-On-Thames - The Town Hall
I have had only one day at home today in between camping trips. It was very busy! Two appointments including the dentist! Washing. Shopping. Repacking. And then later on a visit with a lovely friend who normally lives in Germany. After tea in the garden we drove to Henley and had dinner at a favourite Thai restaurant.
It was a beautiful evening and I liked the look of the sky behind the Town Hall. This is the fourth town hall in Henley. The previous ones were built in the late 13th century, then 1492, then 1796, and then this one in 1901, built on the same site as the third one. It was built as a lasting memorial to Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. It cost the grand sum of £5,895!
The town hall was used as a Red Cross auxiliary hospital in the First World War.
