Water, water, everywhere ...
We had thunderstorms overnight, accompanied by plenty of good, steady rain. I’m not a fan of thunderstorms (huge understatement) but I was nevertheless very encouraged by the rainfall after such a prolonged dry spell.
There is good news – our cellar pump has been working all day removing the rainfall that has come up from underneath the concrete slab. And there is bad news – the outside drain into which it pumps the water is not coping with the volume it’s receiving, and is overflowing down the garden and into the nearest surface water drain. We have a drains expert coming tomorrow morning to see if there is a blockage. In the meantime, I’ve just checked the cellar again. The pump is still going, and the floor is still dry, which is proof that the pump is doing its job well. Fantastic.
Unsurprisingly, water featured a lot in the photos I took today. There were lots of shots of dripping foliage and overflowing drains but, having dashed out in the rain, risking frizzy hair, to take this Just Joey rose, I felt it deserved pole position.
