Begonias

This delicate flower takes me back to post-WWII days in San Francisco Bay Area, where many Japanese Americans resettled after their oppressive internment. Of course, I didn’t know about or understand such things then. I grew up among a large community of Japanese Americans; many were close friends. And several had fathers and uncles whose master craft was gardening. It was art. Beautifully detailed gardens of Dicondra, bonsai junipers, birds of paradise, and flowering begonias.
