Stovetop Blossom

While it's true I have been quite busy getting ready for the resumption of school next week, I still get to enjoy some extra time in the morning cooking up some breakfast and drinking a second cup of coffee. Which counts for a lot.

It certainly hasn't only been me in the building. People are there when I arrive and some of them are still there when I leave. Today I found myself considering the total dollar value of all the unpaid labor currently taking place in my school alone. It must be quite substantial. I'm not one to mope about people's complaints about educational spending, and I don't particularly venerate the profession over any other, but I really don't think many communities realize what a bargain they're getting. Multiply this effect across the entire country and the true sum must be staggering. Personally, it makes me rather sad for the children whose needs aren't prioritized. They generally get a pretty raw deal if you ask me.

Which really has nothing to do with this photo of my stovetop taken for today's abstract challenge.
