Whitstable beach

A fine afternoon on one of our favourite seaside walks along the seafront from Seasalter to Tankerton passing through Whitstable Harbour.

We stopped at the Continental Hotel on the return journey for a customary urn of tea and a shared scone. Whitstable was very busy as befits it’s status as a playground for Londoners, and other places as well as far as I know and it’s the Bank Holiday weekend too.

The tide was ebbing there was little boat activity and a lot of foreshore exposed making swimming impossible. It didn’t stop people trying. They appeared to be half was to Essex and still only up to their calves. The Thames barge Greta managed to berth in the harbour before the water became too shallow.

The RNLI we’re having an exercise, launching the RIB into the shallow waters of low tide. They too were half was to Essex before there was enough water for the boat to float off its cradle.

As we were walking back to the car clouds gathered to the west which created spectacular crepuscular rays as a backdrop which the boats seemed to replicate.

The extras show the Greta and a former lifeboat which was giving short rides out into the bay.

Thank you for all your comments on yesterday’s blip of the Class 108 DMU complete with cat’s whiskers lining from Tenterden Town signalbox. For people of a certain age it brought back memories of days gone by.
