Which Came First: the Chicken or the Pickled Egg?

I didn't like them very much, but they are a lovely color. They taste like someone put way too much vinegar on your Easter egg. M brought them to knitting for us to try; they spend a lot of time in Pennsylvania Dutch country, where pickled eggs are a local treat.
