Seal

As I'd hoped it was a wonderful sail up to Rapness, the Westray ferry terminal, yesterday. As we came near to Westray we saw a small pod of dolphins frolicking but it wasn't possible to get a decent photograph. All the isles were looking lovely and what a pleasure to drive off the ferry and arrive in Westray. It's not called Queen o' the Isles for nothing.

Our holiday cottage is the one we had last year and just one along from the one we had in 2018 and 2019. We aren't very adventurous are we? It is so very comfortable though and just perfect for watching the tide come up and go down again.

This morning's walk was round to Broughton where the seals are often hauled out on the rocks. I think this is a common seal with its v-shaped nostrils and concave head. There was a pup too and I think they give birth in summer, earlier than grey seals. But happy to be corrected.

What should have been a relaxing walk with the sun coming out and the tide reaching its highest point turned slightly anxious. Flora slipped her lead and ran off after rabbits. Cameraman had to do some fence climbing to retrieve her. It took a while! She's exhausted now of course while we're still twitched up by the 'what ifs'.

After lunch we'll head out again with Flora firmly double secured.
