Peaceful Sunday

After the Games, Dunoon begins the wind-down into autumn and winter. Like the Canada Geese that can just be spotted towards the top left of this photo, people begin to drift back to where they came from, camp-sites are no longer scattered with tents and fires, there are fewer cars in normally quiet places. Today's weather matched that faintly elegiac feeling: despite some short-lived rain at breakfast time it grew warm and still, with increasingly hazy sunshine that made for a lovely sky at sunset.

Church was quiet too - a much smaller congregation than usual, numbering only 17, with several noticeable absences. Half a dozen of us were still chatting after the service when two young women arrived, wondering it they could have a look at the church. It turned out that they were originally from Largs and had been taught music by our oldest friend and tenor in our quartet, so great hilarity ensued as names were exchanged for passing on good wishes. They seemed to find it incredible that we'd just conducted an entirely lay-led service (our Rector was away marrying his daughter, if you get my meaning.)

Lunch in the garden was followed by my falling asleep and snoring loudly. It's funny how you can hear yourself snore without actually waking up - clearly this is a function of the high backs of the patio chairs! We went a stroll out the Ardyne to waken me up - that's when I took several photos of the view of calm water, flights of Canada Geese and the flowers along the shore. There were several moored boats that made me think of the Ryme of the Ancient Mariner - as idle as a painted ship/upon a painted ocean. It was 20.5c at 5pm, with not a breath of air.

I meant to blip earlier than this, but I still have a fighting chance of bed before midnight if I rush...toodle pip!
