Just outside
It was a busy day, with appearances from the physiotherapist, speech therapist (to discuss a swallowing assessment), tissue nurse, CCU outreach team nurse, and the long awaited specialist orthotist, who had been asked to organise a suitable supportive neck collar. He works from another hospital, and by six I despaired of him coming at all, but he eventually bounced in cheerfully around nine in the evening, still working through the last of his day's appointments, and drew from his hat a perfect white rabbit neck collar, soft, supportive, and a good fit. After the misery of a foam collar which had to be removed because it caused sores on her neck, J was delighted to have something she could start wearing immediately, rather than having to wait for something to be made or ordered, and which would make everyone a little happier about her being hoisted and spending more time in her wheelchair. It's so good when things work out!
I didn't want to miss anyone, so I only managed a few brief moments breathing the traffic fumes outside the building. An old entrance door to what I think must be one of the original hospital buildings, now entirely enclosed among high towers of glass and steel, has some attractive architectural details, a little pocket of green planting and a couple of hanging baskets, simple but pretty against the brick. It always helps if I can find little moments in which to notice things (and take a photo!).
