Curzon Ashton 1 Chester FC 2

A very important and thoroughly deserved win for Chester at Curzon Ashton today. After three defeats on the bounce everyone was desperate for a win and it was frustrating that we had played well in the first few games but not picked up the points we deserved.

The away support was tremendous and the reception Calum and the players got at the end of the game showed how much the win was appreciated.

As a bonus there were two legendary former Chester players watching the game on the terrace. Antoni Sarcevic (far left) and Ben Heneghan (2nd left) are now both playing in the Football League with Stockport County and Sheffield Wednesday respectively but it was with Chester that they began to make their name. Sarc was a brilliant midfielder for Chester and scored one of the best goals I have seen when he ran the full length of the pitch to score at Colwyn Bay while Ben scored a fantastic injury time winner over local rivals Wrexham.

Also in the photo are two Curzon Ashton substitutes who are also ex Chester. The well liked Craig Mahon (middle) holds the record for most appearances for the reformed club while Craig Hobson (2nd right) was the scorer of the other goal against Wrexham. On the right is kitman Jimmy Soul who of course knew all of them.

They were all posing for Rick so my photo isn't from a very good angle

The win completed a successful day out with geocaching in Cheadle and Stockport along with a visit to our favourite Stalybridge Buffet Bar. .
