turned to stone for daring to dance on the Sabbath.  Near by are the two tallest menhirs in Cornwall who were the pipers playing for the dancers - they managed to get further away before being turned into stone.  (One wonders about the Sabbath part as they were pre-Christian - about 3500 years old)
