Ethan and Skywalker

A special treat for us today at a local hotel grounds to enjoy all its pools. Taking some of the girls’ friends with us relieved Catherine and me of the burden of being their main pool playmates,  allowing us time to relax and even nap on the poolside recliners.
On the way in, we met Skywalker the hawk and his handler. His job is to scare away the ducks who poo in the fish pond and the herons who eat the Koi. Skywalker was nursed back to health by Ethan after suffering a broken wing and now seems to have a very decent life eating about half a quail a day at a Southern California holiday resort.
During the afternoon, some questions were raised as to how effective Skywalker was, as a very tame duck wandered around the poolside eating scraps of food at our feet.
