Gettin' snacky...
I feel that I have eaten my way around the general South Lakes area today.
But for the presence of LadyV, I may have missed out on all of this due to a prolonged recovery from last night’s Zombie, but with her continual nudging and cajoling I was soon persuaded out of bed to prepare a picnic for us to take to Coniston.
We found a nice spot on the far side of the lake (away from the majority of tourists) and set up base camp before inflating and launching out on the paddle boards. It was absolutely glorious with the sun at just the perfect temperature. We paddled around a couple of moored boats, marvelling at how clear the water was. It didn’t take too long for the hunger pangs to start, so we paddled back for our picnic whilst perched on a handily placed log.
Naturally, we needed to work lunch off, so hopped back on the boards only to start craving an ice cream and wouldn’t you know it? An ice cream van pulled up at the campsite at the far side of the lake. Our paddle boards picked up steam as we motored over, for once we were relieved at the sight of a queue forming to hold the van in place.
The trade-off was the volume of people both in terms of noise and number. As we sat there demolishing our ice creams we felt that we were at the start of some predatory horror movie, where the beach is packed with people prior to the deadly creature attacking. We paddled away at the earliest opportunity and breathed a sigh of relief.
There followed further periods of intermittent paddling, floating and lounging before we headed home, only to make another pitstop. This time at Chester’s for a cup of tea (my head was really foggy at this point) and a MASSIVE cake, we took time to stop at the small waterfall there.
We rounded at our day with a Chinese takeaway and a viewing of Top Gun: Maverick, which was just as much fun the second time around.
Really feel like I am starting to get the hang of weekends….
