Migrant Hawker
Today we left London and travelled to HPB Barnham Broom in Norfolk. We stopped at WWT Welney on the way and spent a good few hours there watching house martins, swallows, ducks and geese and a large flock of ruff. There must have been around 30. Photography at Welney is not easy as everything is quite a distance away. Plus, I only had my small camera with me as the big lens was packed in the boot.
There was an area called Dragonfly Pond, and we were prepared to be disappointed as so often is the case when a hide is named after a specific bird, but that was not the case. There were plenty of migrant hawkers and common darters around which was great to see.
We arrived at our home for the next week at the same time as the Sainsburys delivery van after getting stuck behind a horse truck for miles and miles. All was well and we are having an early night as tomorrow we are up early for a visit to Snettisham. I hope it lives up to its billing and is indeed “spectacular”!
