Anatomical Venus
I had medical treatment in the hospital in the afternoon, but before that I visited the Tampere Art Museum and the Art Gallery Rajatila.
In the Tampere Art Museum there are two exhibitions: Emma Jääskeläinen, the young artist of the year and Kristian Krokfors. I liked both!
In Rajatila there is Johanna Naukkarinen's exhibition Anatomical Venus. In the picture is one of her works. I learnt something very interesting!
Between 1780 and 1782, Clemente Susini created the Anatomical Venus. The dummy doll was conceived as a way to teach anatomy. The original life-size anatomical Venus can be seen at La Specola – the public science museum founded by Leopold II in Florence. Also known as ‘the Medici Venus’, The life-size wax figure has real human hair, and can be dissected into seven anatomically correct layers. She spawned numerous copies.
