Distant Lomonds
Today some members of our Rotary club visited the Burnturk and Kettlehill village hall to hear about their fundraising plans and to enjoy a sumptuous afternoon tea provided by one of our members and his very talented wife.
We have supported them in the past and explored ways of becoming more involved in the future. The hall was donated to the community in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria ‘s diamond jubilee.
We were then taken to see the large community garden that is being developed behind the hall.
As usual I was attracted to the surrounding countryside and the blip is the view from the hall looking towards the Lomonds.
It was good to see that the local farmer had sowed a strip of Phacelia with a few sunflowers, red clover etc round the perimeter of his field. The lovely purple flowers are nearly all gone now but I can only imagine the sound of bees when they were at their height.
The extra just shows the front of the hall - I liked the little arrangements around the bench and it was good to see this fairly remote community has a defibrillator.
