Drama!

We were sitting in Helen’s garden enjoying a coffee when we realised we could smell and see smoke. Peering from an upstairs window a raging fire could be seen down on the Old Hall Marshes, spreading along the sea wall.
Chris called 999 and they were already aware, and within minutes the pumps began to arrive. We counted ten engines, and several other fire trucks, and a bowser.
Obviously we couldn’t get any nearer but we felt it would be safe to go out!
So we went off to play pitch and putt, leaving Helen in charge of the house and dogs, with instructions to phone if there were any developments. As we were driving home we couldn’t see any smoke, and by the time we went for a stroll down the Lane the fire engines were beginning to leave, although they were still hosing down the bushes.
Apparently the fire was started by someone from the Environment Agency!! Well not deliberately, his mower caught fire in the wrong place! But it’s somewhat ironic nonetheless!
Things were a little quieter after that, although the fire trucks are still going up and down the Lane so I assume they are keeping watch overnight, and we can sleep safely in our beds.
