Shotover River

This morning I walked on a track which included crossing the Old Lower Shotover Bridge, from where I took this photo.  Commercial jet boat companies take visitors on scenic trips on the Shotover River, including viewing Coronet Peak (snow-covered in the centre background of photo).

The stone structure in the river bed is a remnant of the first bridge, swept away in a flood in 1878.

The bridge I am standing on (a photo is in extras) was opened in 1915 and used until 1975.  After falling into disrepair it was restored and is now used as a foot and cycle bridge.

A third bridge, opened in 1975, can be seen in the extra photo, in the distance.  It carries large amounts of vehicular traffic to and from Queenstown.
