Sunday History Lesson
Big stormy southwesterly day to day with wind rain and hail. After a stroll, hood up head down, along the beach we headed out to have a look at the brochs.
These are amazing stone buildings around 2000 years old built without any cement or binding of any sort. It was thought that they were defensive structures, the above link gives some good background but I believe that they were badges of power.
They must have taken years to construct and used hundreds of workers, which begs the question, if they were building who was doing the hunting and gathering? There must have been abundant food resources here at the time to support such an undertaking.
BB and Shedmonkey have some nice interior shots.
Here endeth the history lesson.
