First day of meteorological autumn
Elderberries looking good. I always feel something scrumptious should be made from these berries, they look so luscious. Wine? Jelly? Unfortunately, too much sugar in jelly for me.
A band rehearsal this morning, our final practice before Saturday’s performance at a garden fete in aid of the Royal Marines charity.
This afternoon I participated, via Zoom, in a meeting of the railway’s Environmental and Sustainability Working Group where we met our new general manager.
He had a crucial message: like every other business and most people we are on the edge of a precipice the depth of which we have no idea. For the railway, like everyone and everything else, to still be here in 5 years time urgent action will need to be taken in the next few weeks. This may be the worse case scenario, who knows?
So our group has been asked to change its brief by enlarging its membership to become the Railway Sustainability Group focusing on retaining and making best use of our members and volunteers, improving our environmental impact (see yesterday) and maximising our income while minimising expenditure.
