Birds of a feather

I don't know what they'd found to eat but it was obviously appealing.

This evening I went to the first open mike night ever at Witney's Corn Exchange with two friends who campaigned for years for the building to re-open for community use. When it was built in 1863 it was used for social events and meetings as well as corn dealings and it housed several clubs and societies but that stopped long ago and until quite recently the council was using it as run-down office space. Apparently one of the objections to the costs of refurbishing the building was that 'working class people aren't interested in the arts'. The friends I was with are a working class musician and a working class poet so they had fun with that one. They both stood as councillors, got elected and were involved in a radical change of local politics (this was David Cameron's West Oxfordshire constituency). The Corn Exchange website now says 'Proudly run by Witney Town Council'.
The extra is the Deputy Mayor performing his working class poetry.
