Clock Spider

A rather large Garden Spider (Araneus diadematus) was waiting in our back garden yesterday evening to welcome us back from our time away in Surrey and the Chilterns.

When we first saw it, it was sitting in the centre of its web; but as I went to photograph it, I must have nudged one of its threads, as it immediately scurried up the topmost thread to its attachment point on our outdoor radio clock.
