William Gladstone, Coates Crescent

This memorial statue to Gladstone was on my running route this morning.  It was rather perfect conditions at around 13 degrees, no wind and sunny!  William Gladstone was the British Prime Minister four times, 1868, 1880, 1886 and 1892.  He was the MP for Midlothian between 1880 - 1895.  The memorial was designed in 1902 and initially placed in St Andrews Square. It was moved to its present site in Coates Crescent in 1955.

In the afternoon we had the Water of League bowls closing friendly of the season when the club teams are mixed up.  Susan A. and I represented our club and I played in a rink with ladies from Sighthill, Corstorphine and Colinton clubs.  It was a great game which we won narrowly by one shot.  A nice tea followed.
