Butterbur
I've been noticing a large patch of this plant alongside a ditch I drive past regularly. Today I stopped to take a few photographs. It has to be one of our most spectacular wild flowers early in the year. I gather it is dioecious, like holly, with male and female flowers occurring on separate plants. Also, I read that female plants are very rare in the South...yet these plants look to be female to me. I can feel a small investigation coming on!
