Forth rail bridge
Kerry has a birthday cake to deliver to Glenrothes. On the way we stop at Cramond for a picnic. The weather, contrary as always, is inclement. After drying a bench at the shore, we retreat to the car as the rain begins to fall.
After Glenrothes we head to North Queensferry for my birthday treat. A meal at The Wee Restaurant and a night at the Doubletree.
The evening starts in the hotel bar with a couple of cocktails - a Long Island Iced Tea for me and a Mojito for Kerry. The walk to the restaurant takes less than 15 minutes and there are great views of all three bridges across the firth. The restaurant is small and writing, nestled under the rail bridge in the centre of the town.
The food is excellent. We share a starter of scallops and black pudding bonbons and then move on to mains. Kerry has chosen steak while I go for venison (with venison haggis). We don’t manage to finish the sides - truffle and Parmesan fries and purple spiriting broccoli. We do manage to finish the bottle of Merlot.
The walk back is dark, uphill, and slightly damp.
