Delicious But Prickly
I selected this shot from all that I took because it really shows how small these flowers are in relation to the cactus they are on.
This flower is not completely open because I caught it too soon, but even when splayed, it is dwarfed by the cactus. They are tough, like the succulent on which they grow, but so delicate they live with only one cycle of the sun.
People around here think I'm totally bonkers for focusing my attentioin on every cactus flower I see because everyone here just takes them for granted. They are part of the landscape but they do enrich our lives.
