Last day of the holidays

Return to school looms.
Last wood walk, Ben says "Into
the forest we go."

Older teen went back today, Ben and I felt a bit adrift. Popped to the shops, we were then distracted by some road works on our street. Ben's glee at the road-roller and watching all the bitumen go down was very charming.  We walked up to the park so we could wander past the workers and have a nosey.  They were friendly and we were amazed at how fast it all goes down so you can drive on it again.  They've left it sort of gravelly and will come back to finish next week apparently.  Kept us amused for a bit.  At the park it was quiet, a lot of local schools are back now but Ben goes to a special school, out of our area, so we had the place to ourselves.  He loves the whooshing of this roundabout (photo).  After lunch we went for a final walk in our woods and as we passed from one section to another and the tree cover enveloped us again, Ben said "into the forest we go.." which I liked.  So I wrote it down :-D
I don't like the start of a new term, lots of pressure to build the right relationships with staff and the worry that Ben will just decide he doesn't want to engage.  He once had over 9 months out of school when a placement broke down and we couldn't get approval for an alternative, more appropriate setting.  So the consequences of things going wrong are well understood here.  Oh dear, that's gloomy isn't it?! I should be excited about the new adventures ahead (and if nothing else, a cup of coffee in peace!)
"Into the forest we go.."
