Workers of the World Unite!
The comrades were enjoying the warm sunshine on Clerkenwell Green at lunch time today before the start of the annual May Day march to Trafalgar Square.
Clerkenwell was a base for the early Russian communist parties, as the British government were reluctant to expel communist political émigrés. Lenin and his wife arrived at 37a Clerkenwell Green in April 1902. The house is now home to the Karl Marx Memorial Library. Lenin's original office is lined with his complete works and contains a statue of him by Clare Sheridan who was Churchill's cousin, Trotsky's lover and Hitler's acquaintance...
Apparently Lenin hated London until he discovered the joys of drinking in the pubs on Clerkenwell Green!
