Off the bus

I don't know what was on the paper this guy was looking at as he got off the bus - a shopping list, a to-do  list, an address he was looking for?  It certainly wouldn't have been the news which came later in the day.

It was pretty clear at lunchtime when the BBC cleared their schedules for the rest of the day and senior members of the royal family made their way to Balmoral that we could expect an announcement later that the Queen had died. Liz Truss's announcement about limiting the fuel price increases was lost in the coverage from the royal palaces.

Whether you are a Royalist or a Republican, you cannot deny the Queen's astonishing dedication to her role and the part she played in the foreign perception of the UK. She was much respected, admired, and even loved.

I think this country will be a different place in the future.
