Danish dawn, Røsnæs, Sjælland.
The beauty of the European farmed landscapes takes my breath away. There is an amazing diversity of flowers (weeds to most New Zealanders) along the road ways. The crop patterns impose a patchwork of lines and textures, especially in the late summer when we arrived to visit family in Denmark. There are dwarf willows provided the foreground of this panorama. A turf roof on my brother and sister-in-law’s garage is in the bottom right – an example of the way the old houses (and modern architecture) blends beautifully into the landscapes. The photograph is taken at dawn so there is no flag flying yet –Danes celebrate their flag in a festive kind of way. It seems to have relatively little to do with nationalism – just a happy way of saying “this is us, and we are it, and it’s just like all our dreams.”
This photograph was captured near the beginning of 9 days in Denmark, some of which feature in the coming blips.
