End of an era
(9/9/22)
The day started happy enough; I had a meeting with an acquaintance who was visiting Dubai and wanted to know more about it/get a resident's perspective. I chose Shakespeare in Dubai Mall, and we chatted easily for two hours.
G then met me in the mall, and we had lunch before getting home. I'm glad I put in a few hours at work, because the afternoon changed everything. The news that The Queen was under medical supervision seemed vague, but when close family members started arriving to be with her, you knew it was serious.
We were glued to the TV. G saw the flag go to half mast and then the announcement you never thought you'd hear. It's hard to put into words what we felt. Thankfully others have been able to convey the sense of loss and sorrow. Whatever one's feelings about monarchs, it is impossible not to be impressed with how the Queen had conducted herself throughout her life and led by example, working even to the day before she unexpectedly passed away.
My blip was taken yesterday when she met the new Prime Minister to invite her to form a new government. The reason for taking the picture is because it tickled me that from the side, Liz Truss looks very much like my friend rachelwhynot! I'm so glad I got the shot.
