Here’s Looking At You! - Denver's Dairy Block
Wednesday
It was a HOT day in Denver today - it got to about 36C (97F). When I lived in Denver we sometimes got snow in September so I was surprised that the weather is STILL so hot!
I went out for an early breakfast with someone on my crew. It was still pleasantly cool at 8am but it was scorching-hot by 11. We ate at a breakfast place at Union Station and then briefly visited two interesting blocks nearby - the Dairy Block and McGregor Square. This main picture is from a wall outside in the Dairy Block. See the Extra photo for more views.
Both of these areas have been developed in very recent years - long after I moved away from Denver. The Dairy Block is a pedestrian walkway between two buildings, once the home of the historic Windsor Dairy. It’s a destination for shopping, dining and drinking. One of the buildings houses the Milk Market, an upscale food hall and the Maven hotel.
Across the street from the Dairy Block is McGregor Square, adjacent to baseball’s Coors Field ballpark. The complex includes restaurants, residences, The Rally Hotel, a food-court, and shopping (most famously, Denver’s iconic Tattered Cover bookstore). The large plaza in the middle, with its stadium-sized LED screen, is a destination for concerts, movies and pre-game parties. 'Buzz Lightyear' and 'Woody' stand guard outside the entrance to Pixar Putt - a pop-up mini-golf course.
We visited these spots very quickly as it was getting very hot and we were both eager to get back to the air-conditioned hotel. Hopefully the weather will cool down soon so that I can spend more time outside on future trips to Denver.
