Backblip
A visit to Harrogate and Ripon meant that I was able to see two more sundials to add to my record including an unusual one.. The one on the south side of Ripon Cathedral was restored in 1992 and is typical of many found on church walls and shows times between 6am and 5pm in half hours. The sundial in the centre of Harrogate is an arc of a circle made of three massive pieces of stone with a huge gnomon displaying the insignia of the Royal Corps of Signals. It was presented by the nearby Army Apprentices College which closed in 1996 and shows the hour markers and lines. Unfortunately the sun was not shining but apparently it is accurate.
Number 35 and 36 of my sundials
