Dendrocopos major

This little greater spotted woodpecker is our bird feeder feathered hoover. I think it's a "she" and when she flies in, she bounces like an airplane having a bad landing on a stormy day. She appears throughout the day, scares the little finches and sparrows away by flashing her red under side like some sumo wrestler coming in for the final body slam and then lands on the feeder with vice like feet.
The smaller birds eat graciously underneath the feeder on the crumbs that she scatters, knowing that is they try to join her on the feeder she turns into a female with PMT and would annihilate them with her beady stare before another body slam.
Maybe she's that moody because she can't get to the chocolate!
